History of Farrell- Holland- Gale Funeral Home
The Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Homes have been serving the area for well over 100 years. Daniel A. Farrell started Farrell Funeral Home in the latter part of the 1800’s. He was joined by his son, Clark A. Farrell and then Clark’s son, Lester G. Farrell. Daniel Farrell’s great grandson, Lester A. “Bud” Tremble purchased the funeral home in 1939, after the death of Lester G. and Clark A. Farrell. William E. Tremble joined his brother in partnership in 1952.
The move to the present Oregon location of the funeral home at 110 S. 7th St. followed that same year. Lester A. Tremble died in 1963 and then in 1967, Neil E. Holland became associated with the firm. After several years of partnership, Neil assumed full ownership in 1979 when Bill Tremble retired.
The Holland name was added to the business and in 1979, Larry N. Holland, son of Neil, joined the funeral home. Then, in 1985, Neil’s son-in-law, Thomas L. Gale joined the firm. Additional locations in Byron, IL and Stillman Valley, IL were added in 1986 and 1993. Neil Holland retired in 1997 when Larry Holland, Thomas Gale, and Lester “Mark” Tremble, Bud Tremble’s son, formed the current partnership of Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Homes, Inc.
