Joyce M. Horn, age 91, of Oregon passed away on Wednesday October 25, 2017 at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home. She was born on August 11, 1926 in Tiskilwa, IL the daughter of John “Edward” and Marjorie (Ringenberg) Smith. She graduated from Tiskilwa High School. Following graduation from Tiskilwa High School, Joyce worked briefly in Peoria before moving to the “big city” of Chicago where she was a teletype operator for Swift and Company. During this time she made numerous friends, many of whom she remained in touch with throughout her life. Joyce married Donald Royce Horn on October 7, 1956 in Ashton, IL. As a young wife and mother, she devoted herself to caring for her parents, husband and children. When her children reached junior and senior high school, Joyce worked outside the home as a receptionist and administrative assistant for Crest Foods in Ashton. Following her retirement, she remained active as a volunteer with the Lee County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA), church activities and, most importantly, spending time with her granddaughters. Joyce is survived by her children, Donelle Horn-Ward of Chicago, Deena Horn-Smith of Wann, OK, and Ron Horn of Oregon; and granddaughters Jessica, Jenna, Bryanna, and Ashlyn. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, young brother Dean, and special aunt Hilda Ringenberg. An irreplaceable daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, Joyce was an example of all things good in a human being, She will forever hold a special place in our hearts and memories. Visitation will be held from 2-5 PM on Sunday October 29, 2017 at the Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Oregon, IL. A private family graveside service will be held in Ashton Cemetery on Monday with Rev. Karen Gerhard-Conner of the First Presbyterian Church in Oregon officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial is established in Joyce Horn’s name and will be used for the First Presbyterian Church of Oregon, Serenity Hospice and Home, and Lee County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA).
