I worked with Mike at Ogle County for the last several years on the zoning committee. He always arrived at level headed decisions and insight that I appreciated, even under stressful situations. When I visited with him in the hospice home, I saw the same level headedness even under the stressful situation. We discussed his plans for the future that were interrupted by mortality. His statement "I just drew the short straw" still resonates with me. He even smiled when he said it a few weeks ago. He was comforted knowing where he was going for eternity, just kinda surprised at how soon it was going to be. I have great respect for Mike. He was a great guy to work with. Peace to your family from ours.

What a blessing that we knew Michael through All Saints and were neighbors with the Pagdet family on Whitaker Rd.  We remember fondly the news of Ben's birth.  We send our warmest love to family and pray for comfort and peace for all.

Our love and sympathy to all of Michael's family. We go back a long way with the Reibel/Griest family from church and also Bill worked at the phone company with my dad, Wayne Wiegert. Grandma "Bernie" beamed when I would ask her how the kids were. She was so proud of Michael and his accomplishments. I remember him as such a cute little "toehead". Much love to you all. I worked with Mike for years as officers with the Illinois Association of County Zoning Officials. Mike was the one that the Association could always depend upon for whatever was needed, unless it conflicted with his family or his work. When I retired in 2017, I never expected to hear that Mike would leave Ogle County to become a minister. But, as I thought about it, the change did not surprise me. He has always tended a flock. To suddenly hear about his illness and then his passing was harder to fathom. Our world has been lessened and Heaven has greatly gained. I am a better person for having known Mike. Rest in peace and may God's peace be with your family.

Mike provided leadership to and was an example for zoning officials all over the state of Illinois for many years.  I learned much from him.  I was surprised and pleased that he was going to be a pastor in 2nd career.  He was a great man and I thank his family for sharing him.

I was able to watch Mike in action on the basketball court as a referee which he was great at.  I also worked and spoke some with him as he would come to our office to help us with any issues we had.  He was very knowledgeable and I learned from him.  Heaven definitely gained a great soul.  Peace and comfort to the family.

I was a member of  the IACZO with Mike. What an amazing individual he was. He helped me with so many zoning issues, and so knowledgeable about the zoning world. When he told me of becoming a Lutheran minister, I knew God chose the perfect man to lead his flock. His love for God showed through the way he treated each and everyone he met. Praying for all his family during this difficult time. Angie Sarver

Gratitude goes to Mike's family and congregation at Byron for supporting his pursuit of God's call to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament.  It was a joy getting to know Ralph and Ruth's grandson.

There is never enough time to love and appreciate loved ones as much as you want to. I have always had a deep abiding respect for Mike's wisdom, kindness, and inner happiness. He is a person I have often tried to emulate, and that high standard will be something I carry with me the rest of my life. I look forward to the day we will meet again in heaven. All my love to his amazing family. Love your cousin Bernadette.
