Richard B. “Dick” Jahns, Sr., age 77, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at Polo Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born May 3, 1940 in Aurora, IL the son of Raymond and Marion (McEwan) Jahns. He graduated from Kaneland High School in 1958. He worked 21 years for the Elburn Water Dept. retiring in 2003. He was also a retired volunteer for the Elburn Fire Dept. after serving over 25 years. Dick and Pam met with the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick's Day in 1973 and married on June 29, 1974. They brought two families together and were considered a lopsided Brady Brunch. Dick was a caring father, grandfather, and great grandfather to the entire family. He loved going on his annual fishing trips to Lake Shelbyville with family and friends. He enjoyed making birdhouses, wooden signs, fishing, cutting down trees and anything that goes "boom". Dick loved living on the Rock River with Pam after his retirement and being with his dog Jack. He was a friend to everyone he met with his outgoing personality. He won over many with his gentle, kind heart and witty humor. Dick carried this spirit into his last home and was crowned the King of the Polo Rehab and Nursing Facility by the caring staff for Valentine's Day 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, daughter Angie Landmeier, infant daughter Winessa Jahns, 2 grandsons Ryan and Timmy, and son-in-law Paul Heyob. He is survived by his wife Pam of Oregon, IL, 5 children; Richard (Emily Miller) Jahns, Jr. of Dekalb, Monty (Chris) Jahns of Sugar Grove, IL, Anna (Tom) Mainhart of Elburn, IL, Judy Heyob of Shelbyville, IL, and Dawn (Phil) Griswold of Dixon, IL, 1 brother Raymond Jahns of Rochester Hills, MI, and 1 sister Fay Driessen of Covington, WA, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and special friend Rick Miller. A Celebration of Dick’s life will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at the Oregon VFW from 2-6 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is established in Dick’s name. Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon assisted the family.
