Franklin J. Hammond, age 82, of Leaf River passed away at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. He was born on January 30, 1934 in Isabel, South Dakota to Dorcey and Carolyn (Pogany) Hammond. He is a graduate of Leaf River High School. Frank married Fern Westerman on November 27, 1957. He spent many years as a volunteer firefighter for Leaf River Volunteer Fire Department. Frank previoulsy was on the Leaf River Village Board. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking. Frank is survived by his loving wife Fern of Leaf River; children, Kelly (Steve) Truckenbrod of Lake Villa, IL, Mindy (Keith) Morgan of Erie, IL, Pat Hammond of Oregon, IL, and Mona (Roger) Best of Rockford, IL; brothers, Bill Hammond of Leaf River and Bob (Linda) Hammond of Davis Junction; grandchildren, Tiffany Truckenbrod, Bobby Truckenbrod, Sammy (Matt) Wolf, and Sydney Morgan; great grandchildren, Landon and Lilly; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and sisters, Carolyn Hammond and Charlotte Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday October 6, 2016 at Farrell Holland Funeral Home, Byron preceded by a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lightsville Cemetery in Leaf River. In lieu of flowers memorials are established for the Leaf River Fire Department.

Bettie J. Stone, 81, of Oregon, died Thursday September 29, 2016 in Oregon Living & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Feb. 5, 1935 in Dixon, IL the daughter of DeForest & Rose (Greene) Lowry. She married LeRoy Clifford Stone on Feb. 10, 1954 in Oregon; he died in 2008. Bettie is survived by her children, Randy Stone of Daysville, Cindy (Don) Drumheller of Honeycreek, and Rocky (Carol Richards) Stone of Chana; 8 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; sisters, Norma (Neil) Peterson of Grand Detour, Pauline (Orlie) Harrington of Arkansas, and Vivian Shinn of Sarasota, FL; and brothers, Donald (Nancy) Lowry of Cherry, IL, Roddy (Pat) Lowry and Kenny (Debbie) Lowry, both of Grand Detour; and many nieces & nephews. She was also preceded in death by a grandson and siblings, Alice Rottke, Marian Spardella, Marjorie Blaga, Judy Brandt, Shirley Haas, & Gary Lowry.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday October 3, 2016 in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon. No funeral service. Private burial will be in Daysville Cemetery.
Shelley S. Shelton - 476/29/1969 - 9/28/2016
Shelley S. Shelton, 47, of Oregon, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday September 28, 2016 in Dixon, IL. She was born June 29, 1969 in Rockford, IL the daughter of Mark and Barbara (Clapper) Davis. Shelley was a graduate of Oregon High School , graduated Magna Cum Laude in Communications from Northeastern Illinois University, and also studied Certified Clinical Medical Assisting at Rock Valley College. She loved the outdoors, especially taking pictures of butterflies and flowers. Shelley also enjoyed reading and music, and adored her niece, Ava. Shelley put it this way: "I am a free spirit who loves nature, traveling, and who are spiritually awakened. Love & Light !!"
Survivors include her father and step-mother, Mark & Barb Davis of Oregon; sisters, Jennifer (Richard) Boyden of Oregon and Courtney (Ben Kittinger) Mulkins and their daughter, Ava of Rockford; step-brother, Peter (Megha) Probst and their daughter, Suriya of Chicago; maternal grandmother, Betty Roberts of Mt. Morris; paternal grandparents, Herbert & Marion Davis of Oregon; and best friend, Deanna Jergens of Dixon. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara and her maternal grandfather, John Clapper.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday October 5, 2016 at 6:00 PM in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th St, Oregon, followed immediately by a gathering of family and friends at the Oregon VFW.

Glenn A. Book, age 79, of Leaf River passed away suddenly on September 26, 2016. He was born on September 14, 1937 to Clarence and Jessie (Martin) Book. Glenn’s passion in life was farming and he made it his life’s work. One of his favorite things to do was to be out on the combine. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. Glenn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Byron where he was a part of the Knight’s of Columbus. He was an active member of the Horseshoe Riding Club where he once served as President. Glenn was also a member of the Mount Morris Moose Lodge. He is survived by his sons, Adrian (Tari) Book and Mike (Sherrie) Book of Leaf River; Fiancé, Kathrine Boos of Dixon; step children, Howard (Tammy) Book of Kentucky, Connie (Dave) Fox of Tampico, Steve (Sue) Book of Rockford, and Carol (Lloyd) Bellows of Oregon; Siblings, Harold (Cheryl) Book of Byron, Dorothy Butt of Belvidere, Marge Genandt of Forreston, Mildred Sammons of CA, and David (Linda) Book of Pecatonica; sister-in-law, Beverly Book of Pecatonica; 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and many great great grand children. He is predeceased by his parents, first wife Joanne, second wife Nellie May, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. Christian funeral mass will be held Thursday September 29, 2016 at 5:00 PM, preceded by visitation from 3:00 PM until time of mass, in St. Mary Catholic Church, 220 E. 2nd St., Byron with Father Howard Barch officiating. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Byron. A memorial fund is established in his name.

Jerry G. Lingel, 76, lifelong Byron resident, died Saturday September 24, 2016 in Oregon Living & Rehabilitation Center. Born October 16, 1939 in Byron, the son of Robert and Gladys (Blevins) Lingel. Married to Peggy A. Bandi September 17, 1999 in Eubanks, KY. Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Byron High School and was employed 40 years at Camcar/Textron in Rockford, retiring January 2000. He was also grounds keeper and supervisor at Oregon Golf Club for many years. Jerry was an avid and accomplished golfer and bowler and an avid Chicago Bears fan. Survived by his wife, Peggy of Byron; brother, Larry (Linda) Lingel of Plattville, Wis.; sisters, Roberta (Randall) Calvert of Stillman Valley and Loretta (Michael) Freedlund of Winnebago; son, James (Tina) Johnson of Rockford; daughter, Angela (Mark) Cowling of Rockford; grandchildren: Cameron, Marlina, Laurie and Joshua; nieces: Amy, Karen and Kimberly; and nephews: Rick, Randy and Mark. Predeceased by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday September 29 at Ebenezer Reformed Church, rural Oregon, with Pastor John Wisdom of the church officiating. Delores Sally Tilbury Walker, 86, of Byron, IL died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Neighbors Nursing Home in Byron. She was born July 18, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri to parents James and Emma Williams. Sally was married to William Tilbury in 1951, he died in 1990. Sally was also married to Ben H. Walker in 1962, he died in 2006. Sally held various occupations over the years, among them working as a waitress at Indian Village and the Byron House, as well as employment with Amerock, Rockford, and Quebcorp, Mt. Morris. She enjoyed arts and crafts, collecting jewelry and porcelain dolls, and going to garage sales. Her grandchildren were a great joy in her life. She is survived by daughter Charlene Morris of Rockford, IL, sons William C. Tilbury (Connie) of Byron, IL, James L. Tilbury (Patricia) of Frederick, MD, David A. Walker of Rochelle, IL, Dean A. Walker (Debra) of Oregon, IL, step-daughter Karen Wolff of Chaska, MN, special niece Faye Toedte of Byron, IL; 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Judy Tilbury Wismach, and son, Steven B. Tilbury, brothers, Joseph Williams, Burle Williams, and Ralph Williams. Special thanks to all the caregivers at Neighbors Nursing Home in Byron and Serenity Hospice who provided great care and comfort to her. Sandra Lynn Janssen, 62, longtime Oregon/Mt. Morris resident, was called home to our Lord unexpectedly on Tuesday September 13, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. Born January 2, 1954 in Green Bay, WI the daughter of Paul and Nancy (Swita) Kaczmarzyk. Married to Stephen Janssen November 5, 1976 in Oregon. Sandy was a 1972 graduate of Oregon High School and a 1975 graduate of Sauk Valley Community College. She was employed many years as a nurse at the Byron (IL) Clinic, then as the TB Nurse for Ogle County Health Dept and then as school nurse at Rahn Elementary School in Mt. Morris. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Oregon. In her spare time, Sandy enjoyed cooking, fishing, garage saling, playing with her grandchildren and giving to others. She spent many years shopping, wrapping and giving gifts to the needy at Christmas time through Stewardship in Action at her church. Sandy was always making food for everyone, leaving everyone's bellies fed and hearts full. Survived by her husband, Stephen of Mt. Morris; daughters: Stacy (Skooter) Barber of Dixon, Tracy Janssen of Mt. Morris, Chelsy (Thomas) Jones of Oregon and Kelsy Janssen of La Crosse, WI; grandchildren: Kazmyn "Kaz", Zadie and Zoey Barber; brother, Randy (Tonya) Kaczmarzyk of Davis Junction; and sisters: Shelly (Scott) Rhea of Oregon and Kelley (Sean) Snyder of Grand Detour. Predeceased by her parents. Christian Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am Saturday September 17 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon with Rev. Joseph Naill as celebrant preceded by a visitation beginning at 8:30am in the church. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Oregon. A memorial fund has been established.

Forreston – David E. Buzinski, age 68, died Monday September 12, 2016 in Freeport., IL. He was born in July 1948 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Leonard and Frances (Burzynski) Buzinski. He married Roberta Gore on July 25, 1970. David was a United States Marine Corps veteran who served 2 years in Vietnam. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Roberta of Forreston; children, P. Scott (Molly) Buzinski of Gahanna, OH, Lynn (Andrew) Koroulis of Arlington Heights, IL, Brian (Sean) Buzinski of Chicago, IL, and Robin Buzinski of Chicago, IL; siblings, Daniel (Meri) Buzinski, James (Marge) Buzinski, Ronald (Camille) Buzinski, and Sharon (Timothy) Sjoberg; and grandchildren, Jacksen, George, and Quinnlyn. David is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol. Doris L. Shull - 797/6/1937 - 9/10/2016
Doris Lorraine Shull, 79, of Oregon, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 10, 2016 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was born July 6, 1937 in Oregon to George and Harriett (Cann) King. Doris married the love of her life, Donald Shull, on November 12, 1955; he preceded her in death on August 12, 2013. Doris was an avid reader and an inspiration to everyone she met. She and Donald had a passion for antiquing and auctions. Doris was a beloved mother to her surviving children: sons, Michael (Robin) Shull of Byron, Mathew (Nancy) Shull of Oregon; daughters, Roxanne (Todd) Bauer of Buffalo, IA, Sherri (Katie) Rowe of Mt. Morris and Stephanie (Mike) Meyers of Byron; and son, Alan (Keith) Shull of Chicago; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Joanne (King) Spangler of Oregon; brother, Ronald King of Byron; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Barney. Also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Shirley (King) Bull. Don and Doris will be reunited at a graveside memorial service for both to be laid to rest at 10:00am Saturday, September 24 in Washington Grove Cemetery , north side of Flagg Road, with Pastor Chan Choi of Chana United Methodist Church officiating. A luncheon will follow at Chana United Methodist Church, 606 Main St., Chana. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is established for Nurture Project International.

Bernita E. Kuhn, 82, of Oregon, died Sunday September 4, 2016 in Franklin Grove Living Center. Born May 19, 1934 in Amboy, IL the daughter of Theodore & Ethel (Garrett) Hinrichs. She married Donald S. Kuhn in Oregon on January 1, 1951; he died in 2003. Bernita worked along side her husband at the family farm at "Kuhn's Corner" for over 50 years. She also worked part time at the Flower Patch in Oregon and enjoyed flowers, gardening and decorating for each holiday. Survivors include her granddaughters, Tonya (Brian) Lofgren of Sterling and Tessa (David Sanchez) Kuhn of Parker, Colo.; great grandchildren, Hunter, Emily, Macie, Max, Sebastian, & Adrian; and daughter-in-law, Bette Kuhn of Woosung, IL. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sons, Steven and Michael "Shorty", and brother Gene. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday September 7, 2016 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon, preceded by visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Jack Briggs officiating.
