Charles H. Ehmen, Sterling, IL, formerly of Oregon, IL passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 surrounded by his wife and daughters in his home. He was born July 24, 1919 to Charles and Hattie (Doeden) Ehmen on a farm on Blackhawk Rd., Oregon, IL. Charles attended Oregon schools and served in the US Army during WW II. He married Hazel I. Cheshier of Rock Falls, IL. He was employed by Kol Master Corp. and the E.D. Etnyre Co. Upon returning from the service he started his own business, Ehmen’s Electric, Heating, Cooling and Plumbing. He was a Master Electrician and Master Plumber. Chuck retired in 1982 and two of his employees bought the company. He was pleased that the company is still operating today under the ownership of Marty Bush and son and still carries the Ehmen Industries name. He retired after his wife died and he moved to Sterling, IL. Charles was a member of the Oregon Presbyterian Church and presently attended the Sterling Presbyterian Church. He was a past member of the Oregon Rotary Club. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Oregon Golf Club and Rock Falls Golf club for many years. Charles married Barbara Lyons in Sterling in 2008. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughters, Sandra Greenfield, of Forreston; Vicki (Steve) Fuehrer of Ormond Beach, FL; Debbie D. Ehmen, So. Daytona, FL; grandchildren, David(Jenny) Baker, Polo, Jennifer (Clay) Stoffer, Fairfax, IA., Kristin (Jaime) Dorsey, Stillman Valley, Tara Summerlin, and Michael Ehmen of So. Daytona, FL ; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, son-in-law Robert Baker; four stepchildren and their families. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Hazel; daughter, Janice Baker; grandson, Gabriel Blanchard; sisters Edna and Grace Ehmen; son-in-law Larry Greenfield; and Tara’s husband, Levi Summerlin. The family wishes a special thanks to the Hospice of the Rock River Valley staff who helped them through this journey. Funeral service will be 11:30 am on Wed., May 31, 2017 at the Oregon Presbyterian Church with visitation at the church from 10:00 am to 11:15 am prior to the service. Burial in Riverview Cemetery, Oregon . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Oregon Presbyterian or the Sterling Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Rock River Valley, Sterling.

Agnes C. Heller, 88, lifelong Oregon resident, died Monday May 22, 2017 in Serenity Hospice Home, Oregon. Born August 12, 1928 in Pine Creek Township, the daughter of John and Carrie (Canode) Schier. Married to Franklin L. Heller April 8, 1950 in Dixon; he died May 12, 2006. Aggie was a graduate of Oregon High School and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oregon. She worked for many years as a clerk for the ASCS Office in Oregon and also as a cook for the Oregon school system for several years. Survived by her sons, Franklin Lavern (Karen) Heller of Ashton and Donald (Kathi) Heller of Byron; grandchildren: Jeremy (Terri) Heller of Grand Detour, Nathan Heller of Grand Detour, Charity (Nick) Prose of Oregon and Marni (Chet) Hennert of Byron; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Marian Berry of Byron; and special friend, Richard Little of Oregon. Also predeceased by her parents; granddaughter, Carly Jo Heller; brothers, Francis and Donald E. Schier; and sisters, Anna Mae Fisher, Lillian Guernsey and Vera Milliman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday May 25 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon preceded by a visitation beginning at 10:00am: Pastor Rich Tomlinson of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Oregon will officiate. Todd A. Lucas - 58

Todd Allen Lucas, 58, passed away quietly on May 20, 2017 at Rochelle Gardens Care Center, in Rochelle, Illinois. Todd was born on November 24, 1958 to Walter and Deloris Lucas, Byron, Illinois. He was the youngest of the four Lucas boys, and he is survived by his three brothers Scott and Kim (Hartman) Lucas, Hartland WI, Steve Lucas, Denver, CO, & Brad and Julie (Swale) Lucas, Davidson, NC. Deloris Lucas had three children prior to marrying Walter Lucas so family gatherings in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s proved to be quite a party which Todd thoroughly enjoyed. Todd was raised in Byron, Illinois and attended Byron High School. He worked as a carpenter and as a roofer and lived in Byron, Rockford, and Rochelle. He will be remembered for being the life of the party, having a heart of gold, and being a very caring and sentimental person with strong family ties.
Todd is predeceased by Walter and Deloris Lucas (Parents), Jerry Weaver (half brother), Barbara Conderman (half sister), and Thomas Wallin, (half brother). Todd will be placed in the Byron Cemetery next to Deloris Lucas. The immediate family will hold a private service at a future date.

Gladys M. Terviel - 97

Gladys Marie Terviel, 97, of Durand, formerly of Rockford, died Friday May 19, 2017 in Mercy Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was born October 15, 1919 in Monroe, WI the daughter of Arthur & Rainie May (Taylor) Stoll. She married John Henry Terviel on November 24, 1948 in Rockford; he died in 2010. Gladys worked at Shook's Corners, Coil Oil and then Smith Oil of Rockford. She was a member of the Belvidere Moose where she also volunteered waiting tables. She enjoyed Bingo, crossword puzzles, and playing cards, especially Euchre. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melody, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne Carlson of Davis, IL; grandchildren, Bradley (Lisa) Carlson of Davis, IL and Renee (Jim) Jourdin of Rockford; 2 great grandchildren, Alyssa and Kayla Carlson; one great great grandson, Brayden; brother Gilbert Stoll and sister Lois Adleman, both of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Medinah Manor Retirement Center in Durand and also the doctors and nurses at Mercy Rockford Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care for Gladys.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday May 23, 2017 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood. Family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. A private burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery.

Mark O'Hara - 57

The entire family of Mark O'Hara, 57, of Oregon, regretfully announce the unexpected passing of their cherished father, brother and uncle on Thursday May 18, 2017 in KSB Hospital, Dixon. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Jack and Patricia O'Hara, his beloved mother Peggy O'Hara and his cherished brother Michael. He will be dearly missed by Janette Villareal of Oregon, his loving partner of 19 years and her children and grandchildren. He is survived by four sons: Andrew (Theron) Pfister, Ryan (Melissa) O'Hara, Joshua O'Hara and Justin (Jazmin) O'Hara; and his granddaughetr, Audrina. Mark was a dear friend to many and a former proud electrician and membr of Local 134 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Chicago. Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon with Rev. Joseph Naill as celebrant at 11:00am Friday May 26.

Randal L. Bishop, 52, of Byron, died unexpectedly Sunday May 14, 2017 in Mercy Hospital, Rockford. He was born Dec. 19, 1964 in Chicago the son of Lawrence & Linda (Zehnder) Bishop. He was a graduate of Gordon Tech High School and served in the US Navy Reserves. He married Helen “Toni” Noah in Chicago on Sept. 10, 1989. Randal was a mechanic for J.X. Peterbilt in Rockford and was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Byron. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America in the White Eagle District of the Blackhawk Area Council. He also enjoyed Scuba diving, but the love of his life was his granddaughter, Katie. She, along with his children, was who he wanted to spend time with. Survivors include, his wife “Toni”; daughter, Rebecca of Byron; sons, David (Brooke), currently serving with the Marines in Hawaii, Richard & Dylan, both of Byron; granddaughter, Catherine “Katie”; parents, Lawrence & Linda Bishop of Chicago; sister, Crystal (Lorenzo) Silvestre of Joliet, IL; and brothers, Daniel (Pauline) Bishop of Lake Geneva, WI and Kendal (Elizabeth) Bishop of Melrose Park, IL. Also survived by his parents-in-law, Sophie & Earl Watkins of Byron and brother-in-law, John (Kerrie) Noah of St. Charles, IL. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday May 18, 2017 at 11:30 AM in All Saints Lutheran Church, 624 Luther Dr, Byron, IL 61010 with Pastor Janet Wold officiating. Oregon – Janis I. (Scharr) Bechel, age 89, passed away May 13, 2017 following a brief illness. She was born April 16, 1928 in Nelson, WI the daughter of Harold and Iva (Hallock) Scharr. She married Robert Bechel of July 9, 1949 I Nelson, WI. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage prior to his passing in March of 2016. They moved to Oregon in 1954. Janis was a homemaker and loved to garden and make quilts. Survivor’s include her 3 daughters; Karen Paap of Rockford, Lynette (Leroy) Smice of Oregon, Talene (David) Remour of Oregon, grandchildren; Jason (Jen) Paap, Jeremy (Dana Smoter) Paap, Rob (Wendy) Smice, Nathan Smice, Joshua (Stephanie Gray) Remour, and Sara (Frank) Rowe, and 11 great grandchildren, sisters Cleo (Darrell) Bauer of Oregon, Zeldean Paskiewicz of Milwaukee, WI, and brother Ricky ( Marie) Scharr of Franklin, WI, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Robert, son-in-law John Paap, sisters Evelyn Thompson and Darlene Paskiewicz, brothers Jack Scharr and William Scharr. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Wed., May 17, 2017 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th Street in Oregon, IL with the Father Thomas Lamb officiating. Frances Jean Toth - 81

Byron – Frances Jean Toth, age 81, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving children. She was born Aug. 19, 1935 in Byron the daughter of Carl and Senzi (Gross) Boehm. She attended Whitaker Grade School and graduated from Byron High School in 1953. She married Joseph P. Toth on April 24, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Byron. He passed away in 2000. They met while both working for GTE. Fran also worked as the head baker for Byron School district for 25 years. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she sang in the choir, served on the funeral committee and was part of the Golden Agers. She enjoyed being with her family and cooking for them. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Joseph, sister Dorothy Staniszewski, and brother Robert Boehm. She is survived by her 5 children; Joan Toth (Brad Woletz) of Ellsworth, WI, Cathy (John) Olson of Rockford, Michael (Rachel) Toth of Stillman Valley, Joseph (Tonya) Toth, Jr. of Delaware, Ohio, and Carla (John) Byerley of Mt. Morris, IL. Grandchildren; Nicole Wood, Samantha Schmitz, James Andy Fortune, Stace Toth, Jade Toth, Paul Toth, Sophia Toth, Katelyn Byerley, Madisyn Byerley, Ava Toth, TJ Toth, Kelly Olson, Randy Olson, Steve Olson, Brady Olson, 8 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Byron with the Rev. Howard Barch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Byron. Cleo Ann (Piper) Boger - 96

Cleo Ann (Piper) Boger died peacefully early Christmas 2016 morning. She was 96 and preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Boger ('02), and 2 brothers, Robert Piper ('12) and Jerry Piper ('15). She is survived by 3 children, Dr. Stephen P. Boger (Joan) of Hayward, WI/Naples, FL, Paul Boger (Barb) of Cokato, MN and Lizabeth Boger (Eric Nilsson) of Falcon Heights, MN; also by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Daughter of Helen and Leo Piper, Cleo was born and raised in Byron, IL, where her ancestors had settled in the 1830s. An alumna (B.A., English) of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and remained active for life among UW and KD alumni. When Bob Boger (a fellow "Badger") was discharged from the army, the couple moved first to Madison, WI and later to Byron, where Bob joined his father-in-law's hardware store business. In 1961, Cleo began teaching PE in Byron area schools. She later obtained a degree in library science and long-served as the librarian at Byron High School. In the course of her tenure in that role, Cleo, deeply influenced the lives of countless students, many of whom to this day give testament to her love and critical guidance. Highly active in the social and civic life of Byron, Cleo and Bob were much loved and exemplary members of the community. Among her many other contributions, Cleo devoted much time and energy to Girl Scouting. In retirement, Cleo and Bob loved spending summers with family at Cha-ro-ke and Windsong, the Boger Family cabins in northwest WI; during winters in Bradenton, FL, Bob and Cleo reveled in hosting family visitors from the cold north and socializing with friends, old and new. They loved to travel and took many family road trips and in retirement, trips abroad. For the last 4 years, Cleo resided at Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul, MN, where she maintained her good cheer, curiosity about the world, and love for books. She was interested in the lives of her many fine caregivers. The family expresses special thanks to those caregivers, who did so much to make Cleo's last years comfortable and gratifying.
A memorial service will be held Saturday May 13, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the United Church of Byron ,701 W. 2nd St., Byron. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM. Interment will be in Byron cemetery. Memorials to the loving life of this grand woman will be directed to Girl Scouts of America and Alzheimer's Association.

Billie Sue Story, 75, of Mt. Morris, passed away Saturday April 29, 2017 , surrounded by her family, at Univ. of Wisc. Hospital in Madison following a brief illness. She was born April 26, 1942 in Marked Tree, Arkansas the daughter of John H. & Bonnie (Damouth) Jarrett. Bonnie passed away in 1944 and Billie was raised by Lora Jarrett who married John. She married Robert L. "Bob" Story on Feb. 2, 1957 in Okeechobee, FL; he died in 2005. Bob and Billie ran the Shell Gas Station in Oregon for many years. Survivors include her children, Edna "Punkin" (Don Loso) Smythe of Mt. Morris, IL, Teresa (Steve) Rettenmeier of Edgerton, WI, and Robert (Brooke) Story, Jr. of Stockton, IL; grandchildren, Brad (Trisha) Carter, Brittany (Bryan) Iwaszkiw, Rachel Story, & Heather Loso; four great grandchildren; sister, JoAnn (Gene) Lyles of Bay, Ark.; and brothers, Johnny (Rose) Jarrett & David (Pam) Jarrett of London, KY. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 3, 2017 at 11:30 AM, preceded by visitation from 10:30 - 11:30 AM, in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th St., Oregon with Pastor Randy Snider officiating. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
