It is with a heavy heart I learned of Bess's passing. Bess and family became good friends to our family when we all lived in the same neighborhood and continued even after both families moved. Bess was cheerful, generous and fun. Bess not only taught most of the kids on the block to swim, she helped our Mom out when several of us were ill, drove us all up to the Jolly Troll restuarant in Rockford for a fun afternoon, and was such a friend our Mom always looked forward to her visits in later years. One memory I have is of Bess's glorious, black hair which she wore in a bun atop her head. I remember she would come over when she started getting headaches to have Mom trim off a couple inches. In truth, it was probably an excuse for them to meet up. Dear Brad, Janet and all of Bess's loved ones, please accept my deepest sympathy.

To Steve and family my sincerest condolences. I worked with Bess at the Ogle County Sheriff's Dept in the 1970s and 1980s. It's been many years since but I have many memories of our time together.

    Rest in Peace, Bess.

I was so sorry to read of Bess;s passing.  I too knew her from working in the Ogle County Circuit Clerk's Office and then she lived across the street from me.  She was a wonderful neighbor and she will be missed.  My deepest sympathies to her family.

I was so sorry to hear of Bess passing away.  Bess was so kind and fun!  Her home was the party house with the big basement and Bess taking the time to teach us to swim in the pool.  I remember worrying about her long black hair as a kid for she would say it gave her headaches and our mom would trim it for her...it was fascinating how she got all that hair on top of her head!  As we grew older we appreciated her friendship with our Mom and the pleasure in listening to the two of them laughing.  Brad, Janet, and all Bess's family, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
