Arnold “Arnie” Meyers, Jr., 85, of Byron and lifelong area resident, died Saturday March 7, 2015 in Pinecrest Manor, Mt. Morris. Born February 15, 1930 in Rockford, the son of Arnold F. and Dorothy (Stanley) Meyers. Arnie was a 1948 graduate of Winnebago High School and a 1960 graduate of Northern Illinois University. He served in the US Air Force 1951-1955. Married to Leola Schildt March 19, 1955 in Polo. Arnie was employed by Barber-Coleman for 14 years in their accounting and payroll departments, then was an Administrator and Business Manager at area nursing homes, and lastly was administrative recorder for the Tebala Shrine from 1980 until retiring in 1993. Arnie also drove school bus for the Byron School District for 20 years. He was a member of United Church of Byron, the Tebala Shrine and a member and Past-Master of Winnebago Masonic Lodge 745 AF&AM , achieving the honor of 33rd Degree Mason in 1987. Survived by his wife Leola of Byron; son, Craig Meyers of Forreston; daughter, Karen Galbrath of Bettendorf, Iowa; grandsons, Caleb Medearis of Tacoma Park, Maryland, Travis Medearis of Bend, Oregon and Tim Meyers of Urbana; grand daughter, Erin Galbrath of Thornton, Colo.; step-granddaugher, Patrice (Ron) LeFevre of Heston, Kan.; great grandchildren: Noah, Meredith and Colin LeFevre; brother, Stanley (Carol) Meyers of Winnebago; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and daughter Patti Medearis. A Memorial Visitation will be held 2:00 – 4:00PM Saturday March 14 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Byron. Private burial in Byron Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. The family extends thanks to the wonderful and compassionate staff at Pinecrest Manor for the kind and loving care they gave to Arnold – you all have a special place in our hearts.
