Barbara Lynn Holland, 80, longtime resident of Oregon, died Friday, September 5, 2014 in Rush University Medical Center, Chicago surrounded by family. Barbie put up a courageous fight but complications from her cancer left her too weak to go on. She was born May 28, 1934 in Erie, IL the daughter of Adam and Anna Pauline (Abbott) Manning. Barb grew up in Lyndon and was a graduate of Lyndon High School. Married to Neil E. Holland January 31, 1954 in Lyndon and they enjoyed over 60 years of married life together. She was a housewife and stay at home Mom for the most part but also worked in the Ogle County Assessors office several years. After her husband Neil’s retirement from Farrell-Holland Funeral Home, they travelled extensively in the United States and parts of Europe. Barb enjoyed counted cross-stitching, her card and birthday clubs and accumulating Wizard of Oz and Raggedy Ann collectables, but her main focus was her family: her husband, children and grandchildren. She recently developed a passion for genealogy, tracing her ancestry back to the Mayflower. She was a faithful and devoted member of Oregon United Methodist Church and its Naomi Ruth Circle, Oregon PEO Chapter IU and Oregon Red Hat Club. Survived by her husband Neil of Oregon; children, Larry (Susana Guzman-Holland) Holland, LuAnne (Craig) Cann and Lisa (Tom) Gale all of Oregon; grandchildren: Kellen (Kristi) Cann, Brooks (Sarah) Cann, Griffin Cann, Logan Cann, Jon (Paige) Holland, Katie (Jeremiah) McCarthy, Morgan Gale, Ethan Gale and Chloe Gale; great grandchildren: Cambria Cann, Finley Cann, and Lydia and Violet McCarthy; step grandchildren, Jim (Jackie) Mzhickteno and Mel Hicks; step great-grandchildren, Max Mzhickteno and Kaenyn Walker; and sister, Mary (Jim) Stern of Lyndon. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Wallace, sister Janet and daughter-in-law, Marjorie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday September 10 in Oregon United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Good officiating. Burial in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 3:00 – 7:00pm in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon. Memorials may be made to Oregon United Methodist Church or Rock River Center, Oregon.
