Davis Junction, IL – Francis E. Sanders, age 85, passed away Wed., March 8, 2017 at the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. He was born Dec. 28, 1931 in Sublette, Illinois the son of Eugene and Marguerite (Foss) Sanders. He graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1949. He married Dorothy Lyon on Feb. 14, 1953 in Davis Junction. He had 4 children, 3 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Francis worked for Patten’s in Rockford for 40 years, as a mechanic, retiring in 1997. After retiring he worked for the Byron Township. He served in the U.S. Navy reserves Seabee for 20 years retiring as an E7 equipment operator chief. He was very active throughout his life serving as a volunteer firefighter, Scott Township Board, Davis Junction Historical Society, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Paul Johnson Post # 1072. His favorite thing to do was being outside where he was an avid gardener. He is survived by his wife 64 years Dorothy, children; Paul (Linda) Sanders, Peggy Coad, Brother Maurice (Doris) Sanders, Keith (Julie) Vaupel, Grandchildren; Jason (Sarah) Sanders, Scott (Katie) Reynolds, nine Great grandchildren, special friend Stu, and his family dog Annie. He is predeceased by his parents Eugene Sanders and Marguerite Sanders-Vaupel, brothers; Elwyn, Melvin, and Eddie Sanders;, sister Kathleen Sanders, daughter Debbie Sanders, son Scott Sanders, and granddaughter Haylie Goodin. Funeral Mass will be held 11:30 am, Tue, March 14, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Byron with the Rev. Howard Barch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Byron. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday, Mar. 13, 2017 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Road in Stillman Valley, IL. A Memorial fund is established in Francis’s name.
