James Levi (Jim, Jimmy) Hicks, age 76, loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Pappa, Brother and Uncle passed away at 4:52 p.m. Thursday June2, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family from complications of COPD. Born March 3, 1940 in Marks, Mississippi, the son of the late James Levi and Velma Oretha (McDaniel) Hicks. Lived in Arkansas and California before his family settled in Rockford and then later moved to Monroe Center where he met and married the former Jeanette Wingo on June 11, 1960 in Oregon, IL. He worked in the construction trade as a plasterer and drywall finisher for 40 years. He retired in 1999 from Mid State Construction, Rockford, IL. He loved to hunt, fish, Nascar, and was an avid Miami Dolphins fan. His family meant the world to him and they will miss him greatly. He is lovingly survived by his wife Jeanette Hicks of Stillman Valley; sons, Jeffrey (Debbie) Hicks of Davis Junction and Joel (Shannon) Hicks of Stillman Valley; daughter, Jennifer (Cliff) Bennett of Davis Junction; grandsons, Jeffrey, Jake, Kyle, and Joshua; granddaughters, Ashley (Jim Druien) and Jessie; great grandson, Evan Druien; sisters, Belva Fentiman of Rockford, Wanda Goble of Davis Junction, Jean Stucker of Stillman Valley, Shirley Holmes of Rockford, Venita (Jerry) Wright of Rockford, and June (Chuck) Collis of Rockford; brothers, Buford (Carol) Hicks of Byron, and Jerry (Diana) Hicks of Chana; brother and sister-in-laws, Mary Wingo of Rockford, Patsy Hawley of Monroe Center, Sara Resenbeck of Rockford, Shirley (John) Johnson, of Monroe Center Nancy Coyne of Byron, and Kathy (Phil) Meseck of Belvidere and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, mother and father in law, Samuel and Jessie Wingo, brothers, Jeff and Leeroy, sister, Geneva Bell, brothers in law, Elmer Fentiman, Guy Goble, Ken Stucker, Bob Holmes, Harold Wingo, Tom Hawley, Ralph Resenbeck, David Coyne, LZ Bell, Lewis White, Grady Campbell, and Finnis Vanvickle. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Serenity Hospice and Home for their loving care of Jim over the past year and a half. He and his family are very thankful. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday June 7 at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Stillman Valley with Pastor Randy Snider officiating. Visitation will be held Monday 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rochelle, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials are established for Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL or the Stillman Valley Fire Department, in Stillman Valley, IL.
