Stillman Valley, IL
Julie Ann (Brett) Glendenning, age 53, of Stillman Valley, IL went home to be with the Lord on Friday May 20th 2016 surrounded by her family. Julie fought an 18 month battle with breast cancer and through it all she never lost faith, never lost hope, and never complained. Julie was a light to everyone who knew her and her light will continue to shine. Julie was born on March 19th 1963 to James and Nancy (Kreitzman) Brett in Rockford, IL. She is the 2nd of five daughters. During her school years she was an accomplished tri-athlete. She competed in basketball, volleyball, and track. She was a state competitor in track, female athlete of the year in 1981 and held the 200 meter record at SVHS for over a decade. She graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1981. She later graduated from Western Wisconsin Technical Institute with a degree in Interior Design and Architectural Drafting.
Julie met the love of her life, Todd Glendenning, at the age of 15 and went on their first date to SVHS Winter Formal on December 21st 1978. They were married August 11th 1984 in Rockford, IL. Todd and Julie settled in the Stillman Valley area, where Todd farms and they have raised their 3 children together. Todd and Julie showed the world the true meaning of love to each other and their family. To anyone that knew them or saw them this was always evident. Julie loved to garden and spend time at the home she designed and had built. She had a love for the outdoors and could often be found working on the yard, cultivating her love for shrubs and flowers, and very recently spending time in her pool. She loved to spend time with her children, her family and the countless others she welcomed into her life. Most of all Julie had a love for God. She accepted Christ at the age of 16 and her faith has never wavered since that day. She loved the Lord and never shied from sharing her faith with anyone who was around her. She was actively involved in her church, Maywood Evangelical Free Church in Rockford, IL and serving her community in various capacities. She had unwavering faith throughout her cancer journey and remained positive and focused on God’s plan for her life. Julie is survived by her husband Todd; children Jessica (Matthew) DeVries, Paige Glendenning (Cody Brewington), Benjamin Glendenning (Tara Keast); and exchange daughter Marianne (Jørgen) Austeim Person of Oslo, Norway.
