Lester E. “Gibby” Gibson, age 78, died Saturday, Mar. 28, 2015 at his home in Stillman Valley surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born May 9, 1936 on the family farm in White Rock the son of Robert J. and Mildred F. (Friday) Gibson. He graduated from Monroe Center High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army. Lester married Ruth Anderson on Sept. 1, 1962 in Stillman Valley. He worked many years as a Highway Maintainer with IDOT, he also farmed and was a floor coverer. He was an Ogle County Precinct Committeeman for Scott Twp., was a member of the Stillman Valley American Legion, and Stillman Valley Lion’s Club where he had served as President and Treasurer. Gibby was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He was a longtime member of the Valley Evangelical Covenant Church of Stillman Valley where he served as Head Usher for many years and chairman of the building committee. He was predeceased by his parents, infant son David, and brother Lawrence. He is survived by his wife Ruth of 52 years, children; Robert (Angela) Gibson of Beloit, WI, Carol (Michael) Leitz of Loves Park, IL, Matthew (Teresa) Gibson of Joliet, IL, and Donald (Sarah) Gibson of Stoughton, WI, sister Lucille (Donald) Engelkes of Bloomington, IL, brother Ronald (Ruth) Gibson of Byron, grandchildren; Arabel and Jadyn Gibson, David, Jonathan, and Abigail Leitz, Katherine and James Gibson, Grace and Kyle Gibson, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Friday, April 3, 2015 at the Valley Evangelical Covenant Church in Stillman Valley with the Rev. Rick Lindholtz officiating. Burial will be at the Stillman Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday evening at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Stillman Valley, IL. A memorial fund is established for the Valley Evangelical Covenant Church, the Serenity Hospice and Home, or the Rockford Rescue Mission.
