Byron – Lois M. Bontjes, age 87 passed away on Friday September 6, 2019 at Generations at Neighbors in Byron. She was born in Malden, Mo on December 12, 1931 the daughter of Wesley and Ellie Mae (Wineman) Harper. She married Kenneth Bontjes on July 18, 1982 in Byron. She was a member of the United Church of Byron. Lois enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Euchre player. In her spare time, she liked to garden especially flowers as well as cooking and baking. She also loved to travel with Kenneth when they were able. Lois was a kind hearted woman who never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was family oriented and close to both her and her husband’s family; she always made sure everyone was included and loved. She was a terrific mother whose life was her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Kenneth of Byron; children, Carla (Gary) Goldammer of Loves Park, Sherry (Tom Anderson) Walters of Winnebago, Kimberly Taylor of Rockford, Gina (Brian) Ross of Belvidere, Brenda (Dave) Caselli of Collinsville, IL, Randy (Cindy) Bontjes of Roscoe, Steven Bontjes of Byron, and Roberta Bontjes-Oslund of Rockford, grandchildren, Jason (Rebecca) Thompson, Jena Thompson, Jamie (Ike) Walters, Brenda (Nathan) Tanker, Andrew (Katie) Walters, Angie (Bill) Duhr, John (Angela) Caselli, Tyler Bontjes, Conner Bontjes, and Jordan Bontjes; and great grandchildren, Joshua, Nadja, Sean, Ava, Evelyn, Miles, Greta, Austin, Luca, Arya, and one great grandson on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Louise McNabb and brother Lewis Harper. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 14, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the United Church of Byron with Pastor Tyler Spellious officiating followed by a luncheon. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
