Myrla Schumacher - 90

Myrla Schumacher, 90 of Byron passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, surrounded by her family at Serenity Home in Oregon, IL from a short illness. She was born on Aug 27, 1924 the daughter of Roy & Lillian Delavergne on a farm in Boone County. Myrla graduated from Fairdale High School in 1941, attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb for 1 year and then continued her education at St. Anthony School of Nursing from which she graduated in 1945. She married Harold P. Schumacher in 1945 in Lindenwood. As a Registered Nurse, Myrla worked at Warmolts Clinic in Oregon, part-time at Highland Hospital for 30 years, she also worked at OSF & Rochelle Hospitals concurrently. Myrla worked full time as a Social Worker for the State of Illinois for 33 years as a Caseworker, Supervisor, and Assistant Administrator. She retired from the State of Illinois position in 1998. Since her retirement she continued nursing part-time at Byron, Midtown and Brookside Clinics. She also worked full time for 4 years at Northwest Clinic for Dr Everson. In 2005 Myrla received the Nurse Achievement Award for her years of dedication and caring. She retired from nursing duties in May 2006 at the age of 81. Myrla was an avid crocheter. She enjoyed embroidery and latch hooking as well. She entered her handiwork in the local fairs for the past 50+ years, receiving many awards for her efforts. Her many relatives and friends are the recipients of her projects. She is survived by her son, Joseph Schumacher (Amy) of Byron and son-in-law Dave Nutt of Leaf River.
5 grandchildren; Jennifer (Schumacher) Beckman (Brandon), Matt Schumacher, Terri (Nutt) Allen, Timothy Nutt (Jennifer), Tracie (Nutt) Buttel (Mark), and 2 step grandchildren; Mark Diddens (Jeannette) & Ray Diddens. 9 great grandchildren; Terra Beckman, Bryce & Brooke Allen, Austin, Alison & Andy Nutt, Emily Buttel and Jake & Carson Diddens. Brother-in-law, Ellsworth Schumacher, and many nieces and nephews. Myrla was predeceased in death by her parents, husband, Harold, in 1995,
daughter, Emily Nutt, in 2005, 4 brothers; George, John & Wilbur Strawn & Ivan Delavergne. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am, Wed., Feb. 4, 2015 at the All Saints Lutheran Church in Byron with the Rev. Janet Wold officiating. Burial will be in the Stillman Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be Tue., evening from 5-7 pm at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St. in Byron, IL. A memorial fund is established in Myrla’s name.
