Pauline Swanson - 100

Pauline Swanson, 100, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017, at Heritage Homes, in Watertown, WI. where she had made her home since 2013. She was born in Pennsylvania on June 15, 1916, Pauline was one of ten children born to Russell and Cora (Drury) Dietrich. The family moved to Illinois when Pauline was in her teens and she resided in the Byron area for most of her life. The Dietrichs were a close family and many holidays and special occasions were spent together. Pauline and her identical twin Irene (Borneman) spent every Thursday together, beginning their weekly outing with a trip to the beauty shop and continued on with shopping or a visit to a brother or sister who lived in the area. Their many friends and acquaintances often confused one for the other and Pauline and Irene went along with the misidentification, joking about it with one another later. Pauline married Martin Swanson in 1935 and they lived for many years on the Swanson Farm at Tower and Montague Roads. Pauline had a green thumb and always had vegetable and flower gardens which she tended with great care. In her younger years, she raised chickens and relied on her egg money for groceries and other necessities. Later, she was the receptionist and girl Friday at the Rockford Boys Club where she was well-loved and appreciated by the boys and staff. Pauline and Martin retired to Byron in 1985 and lived on North Fourth St. Martin passed away in 1999 and Pauline remained in the Byron area until when she moved to her current home in Wisconsin. Pauline is survived by her children, Jim (Linda)) Swanson of Stillman Valley and Carol (Don) Battenberg of Johnson Creek, Wi., grandchildren, Eric (Jill) Swanson, Adam Swanson, Katie (Brent) Schmadeke, Jody (Steve) Knoebel, David (Shelly) Battenberg, and Steven (Debbie) Battenberg and fifteen great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brothers, Robert (Donna) Dietrich, Harold (Lois) Dietrich and Jason (Betty) Dietrich, sister-in-law, Jane Dietrich and many nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers Lloyd, John, and Russell Dietrich and sisters Elizabeth Guyer, Irene Borneman, and Dorothy Garner. The family wants to acknowledge the caring staff at Heritage Homes for their kindness and expressions of love during her years there. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10 at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home, 506 Merchant St., Byron, Illinois with visitation at 10:00 A.M. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Anita Stuart-Steva from the Middle Creek Presbyterian Church will lead the service. Memorials in Pauline’s name may be given to Heritage Homes, 700 Welsh Rd., Watertown, WI, 53098 or Middle Creek Presbyterian Church, 12373 Montague Rd., Winnebago, Il. 61088.
