William “Bill” A. Messenger, age 85, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2014 at his home in Oregon. He was born Mar. 31, 1929 near Oregon the son of Everett and Cletus (Harmon) messenger. Bill attended Oregon schools and served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1946 to 1951. He married Margaruite “Tookie” Flood on Sept. 18, 1948. She preceded him on Oct. 14, 2002. He than married Margaret Long on Jan. 17, 2004 who preceded him on June 10, 2014. Bill worked for 25 years for Chrysler Corporation near Detroit Michigan retiring in 1976 and also owned and operated the Kopper Kettle restaurant in Oregon, IL for many years retiring in 1993. He was a founding member of the East Oregon Church of God. Bill was recently active in the Knights of Columbus of Oregon, IL. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandson. He is survived by his 6 children; Margaret (John) Sliwa of Michigan, Mary (Doug) Hedding of Michigan, William (Nancy) Messenger of Oregon, Wayne (Shari) Messenger of Arkansa, Warren (Sandy) Messenger of Michigan, and Marie (Jeff) Whitsell of Wisconsin, 2 brothers; Edward Messenger of Oregon, IL and Jim (Rita) Messenger of Arkansas, 1 sister Joyce (Jim) Mayfield of Florida, 18 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 3:00 pm, Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th Street, Oregon, IL. with the Rev. Michael Hoffman pastor of the Oregon Church of God officiating.
Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service from 1-3 pm at the funeral home. A memorial fund is established for in Bill’s name.
