Barbra E. Giese

Barbara E. Giese, age 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.  She was born in Oregon on December 10, 1934 the daughter of Martin and Jennie (Krull) Janssen. She graduated from Oregon High School Class of 1952. Barbara married the love of her life, Kenneth L. Giese on May 9, 1954 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oregon. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2023. Barb worked for the Ogle County Bank, E. D. Etnyre, Commonwealth Edison which she retired from in 1995. They opened the Riverview Gulf Restaurant in 1955 and owned other businesses including the Donut Shop.  They also managed the 1890 Club.  Barb was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the ladies’ VFW Auxiliary. She loved being a snowbird in Florida for 19 years with her husband Ken. She loved being outdoors boating and camping on the Rock River in the warmer months. Barb started the Red Hat Group in Oregon and was Queen Mother for 7 years. Barb was a giving person with a big heart who enjoyed volunteering wherever needed including the Rock River Center, Ogle County Fair and Serenity Hospice and Home. When she was not busy, she enjoyed winding down with a good book and listening to country music. More than anything, Barb was passionate about making sure to take the time to make other people smile. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother and husband Ken. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her sister, Leta Thomas of Mesa, AZ; and special nieces and nephews, Gary (Joan) Janssen, Marty (Marianne) Thomas, Tammy (Kurt) Nipple, Zack Thomas, Amy (David) Johnson, special sister-in-law Mary Giese, brother-in-law Bob Giese and many others that were greatly loved. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Oregon with Pastor David Rogula. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery near Oregon. In lieu of flowers memorials are established for Serenity Hospice and Home.
