Chandler, Arizona – Carol C. Frericks, 78, formerly of Stillman Valley, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in Chandler, Arizona on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. She was born on December 23, 1945, in Rockford, Illinois to Hugh and Marlys (Anderson) Johnson. Carol graduated from East High School in Rockford in 1963. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University, a master’s degree from Lewis University, and completed post-graduate studies at Northern Illinois University. Carol was a teacher for the Rockford School District for 2 years and Stillman Valley School District for 27 years. She married Eugene “Gene” Frericks on January 27, 1967, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Rockford. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage together and raised two children. Carol most enjoyed spending time with her family, and throughout her life had a great love for reading. She was a member of the Illinois Education Association and National Education Association. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived and missed by her husband Gene of Chandler, Arizona; daughter Amy (Jose) Ortiz of Chandler, Arizona and son Ted (Kristen) Frericks of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandsons Jakob Frericks, Alex Ortiz, Xavier Ortiz, Theo Frericks, and Charlie Frericks; sisters Nancy (Bill) Parkinson of Springfield, Tennessee, and Mary (Donald) Olson of the Florida Keys. A memorial service will take place at Desert Cross Lutheran Church in Tempe, Arizona on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 3pm. A graveside service will take place at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Paynes Point, Illinois on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 3pm with Chaplain Bill Lucas presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you purchase a book and donate to a library of your choice.
