Oregon, IL – Charles Henry Battin, age 81, died Thursday, December 23, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 31, 1940 in Chicago, IL the son of Robert Davis Battin and Harriot (McMurry) Battin. He graduated from Dundee High School in Dundee, IL & Hoosac Prep School, N.Y, class of 1959, He attended Lake Forest College & Georgia Southwestern. Charles served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962 – 1964. He married Shirley Anderson on June 23, 1977 in Woodstock, IL. While married and raising two children, Charles worked in sales at Wiebolts Department Store working his way up to store manager. After 6 years with Wiebolts, He entered law enforcement and was a volunteer fireman. He worked on the police force in Dundee, IL. He than returned to sales working until 1995 in the car business. He and his wife Shirley also ran a bed and breakfast in Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin. Charles enjoyed fishing, swimming, and playing golf at the Gateway Lodge. He was a former member of the Episcopal, Methodist, and UCC Churches. He was a member and served as president of the Fish &Game Club at Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin. He was predeceased by his mother Harriot, father Robert, Sister Joey Bryson, and brother Rev. Robert Battin. He is survived by his wife Shirley Battin of Oregon, IL, son Robert (Lisa) Battin of Kildeer, IL, daughter Suzi Battin of Springfield, IL, brother John Battin of Spokane, WA, 4 grandchildren; Robert Davis Battin, IV, Stephen Ernest Battin, Ritarose Battin, and Louisa Kathyrn Battin, 3 great grandchildren; Robert Davis Battin, V, Jennifer Battin, and Natalie Battin, 9 nieces and 2 nephews. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th St. Oregon, IL with the Pastor Michael Hoffman pastor of the Oregon Church of God officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Visitation will be prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Please wear a mask to attend the visitation or service.
