Daniel S. Fleeger

August 24, 1970 — April 5, 2025

Byron

Daniel Scott Fleeger, age 54, passed away at UW Swedish American in Rockford on April 5, 2025. He was born in Lewisburg, PA on August 24, 1970 the son of George and Carol (Shaffer) Fleeger. He grew up in Turbotville, PA with his mom and stepfather, John Bobkoski. He graduated from Lock Haven University and while there met the love of his life, Mary Humphreys. They married on October 22, 1994 and built a beautiful life together over the last 30 years. Dan had a huge heart and believed in living every day being intentional about being a generous, caring and loving person to anyone he came across. That carried on into his professional life which led him to being a social worker working with people with developmental disabilities and more recently with the elderly at Pinecrest in Mt Morris. He was an avid sports fan but especially loved cheering on the Byron Tigers, Penn State, the Phillies, and the Steelers. He spent a lot of his spare time coaching baseball and Jr. Tackle Football. After years of coaching he became an umpire so he could continue to spend time at the ballfield watching and mentoring kids who love the game of baseball just as he always had. Dan's passion for Byron athletics, and knowledge of sports led to Dan spending his Friday nights in the press box at the Byron High School football games running the clock for the past 13 years. He also loved to spend time joking and talking with his friends and family or anyone who just needed someone to talk to. Dan made sure to leave whoever he was talking to with a smile. He believed in showing up for people without judgement. More than anything, Dan was a devoted father and husband. He loved to coach and show up for his kids' events and made sure to be a strong presence in their life. He built a legacy for his family of love and acceptance that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. He is preceded in death by his father, stepfather, and grandparents, Jean and Walter Fleeger and Maxine and Emerson “Bud” Smith. He is survived and missed by his wife, Mary of Byron; children, Jack, Reid and Ella (Leo Adami) all of Byron; mother, Carol of Muncy, PA; siblings, Debra (James) Newman of Hughesville, PA and Jeffery (Renee) Bobkoski of Mechanicsburg, PA; mother and father in law, Kathy and Jack Humphreys of Mt Morris; brothers and sisters in law, Anne (Mark) Johnson, Gina (David) Rothweiler, John (Kim) Humphreys, and Matt (Jenny) Humphreys; and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and nieces and nephews who he loved so much. The family would like to thank all the staff at UW Swedish American for their compassionate care of Dan. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Thursday May, 8, 2025 at the United Church of Byron. A memorial service begins at 6:00 PM. Memorials are established in his name and will be donated towards kidney cancer research.
