David A. Etnyre

April 16, 1954 — July 20, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David A. Etnyre on July 20, 2024. David, a proud father and avid sports enthusiast, was born on April 16, 1954. He spent his childhood in Oregon, IL leaving to attend Mercersburg Academy, followed by college at Lawrence University as a Delta Tau Delta brother, later obtaining his degree and ultimately retiring from Northern Illinois University.

The warmth of his personality was felt by all who knew him. He was everyone's biggest fan. He made it his mission to show up, cheer on, and support the endeavors of those close to him.

He was a proud father to his children, William (Shannon) Etnyre, Amanda (Pat) Miller, and Hannah (Brian) King, who survive him. David's love and pride for his family extended to his grandchildren Emery, Zac, Savannah and Greyson, particularly embracing his role as "Papa Dave." He held close his sister Catherine (Charlie) Corbett and brother Robert Etnyre, as well as those who preceded him in death, parents Robert and Slyvia Etnyre and brother Jonathan. He was a beloved uncle, cousin and dear friend to many.

Beyond his family, David's passions were heavily rooted in sports. He was the quintessential Chicago Sports fan, Go Cubs Go, and had an unwavering loyalty to the NIU Huskies. His devotion to these teams was unmatched and became a significant part of his identity.

David's life will be celebrated on Friday August 23, 2024, at 4:00 PM at the Cork & Tap in Oregon, IL. It will serve as a testament to the man he was – full of life, love, and a spirit that was truly infectious. We will gather to remember and celebrate a life well-lived, embracing the many memories and love he left behind.
