Dixie Marie Helman

Dixie Marie Helman, age 83, died Friday, July 7, 2023 at Allure of Pinecrest in Mt. Morris, Illinois.  She was born Sept. 4, 1939 in Robbins, North Caroline the daughter of Harrison and Flora (Class) Brown.  She married Ernest F. Helman on Jan. 24, 1967 in Freeport, IL.  Dixie work as a housekeeping supervisor for Pinecrest Manor in Mt. Morris for 10 years as well as Neighbor’s Nursing Home in Byron for 6 years.  Dixie and Ernest lived many years in the Leaf River area.  She was a member of a bowling league in her younger years.  She loved to play bingo and go to the gambling boat.  Her winnings over the years included a scratch-off ticket where she won  $100,000, a snow blower, and a car that was also filled with groceries.  She also loved her kitty named Mitty.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband Ernest, and sister Joanne Heaton.  She is survived by her daughter Vickie Shade of Mt. Morris, IL; son Vince (Julie) Wright of Oregon, IL; grandchildren: Bret (Vivian) Myers of Madison, WI; Dexter (Kayla) Wright of Davis Junction, IL; Brandy (Rick) Moser of Leaf River; and Danielle Benke of Mexico, MO; great grandchildren: Cody, Colt, Lauren, Marcus, Maya, Maddie, Rowan, Posey, Leo, and Rylee; and many nieces and nephews.  A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.  A memorial fund is established in Dixie’s name for the Allure of Pinecrest in Mt. Morris.
