Don W. Schelling

Don Schelling, age 93, passed away on Sunday May 29, 2023 at Pinecrest in Mt Morris. He was born in Leaf River Township on April 29, 1930 the son of Earl and Mary (Garkey) Schelling. He was welcomed home by a big sister, Helen who adored having a little brother and maintained a great relationship with him for her entire life. They rarely went a day without talking until she preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Leaf River High School. Don led a fulfilling life as a farmer in the area. He loved his cattle and all animals. He had a strong belief that animals should be treated properly and with respect. He was dedicated to his role on the Lightsville Cemetery Board which he served on from 1978 until 2019. He was secretary for the board from 1993 through 2010. When he was not busy on the farm or with the cemetery, he loved to watch baseball. Don was a talker and enjoyed spending time visiting and telling stories with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister. Don is survived by many cousins and friends. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Lightsville Cemetery in Leaf River.  In lieu of flowers donations in his honor may be made to Lightsville Cemetery.
