Oregon ~ Dorothy Darlene Burke, 91, lifetime Oregon resident, died on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Shepherds Premier Living Facility in Oregon, IL. She was born on May 2, 1933, in Oregon, IL, the daughter of Harry & Dorothy (Suter) Boyden. She lived her entire life in Oregon and attended Oregon schools. She married the love of her life, Roger Burke on September 24, 1949, at the Oregon Church of God. Darlene and Roger spent the next 49 years together until his passing on March 11, 1998. They built a wonderful home, family and life together. She loved to spend her time crocheting, doing needle point, baking cookies and taking care of her garden and flowers. She baked the best apple pie that everyone enjoyed. One of her favorite past times was playing a mean game of Yahtzee with her family. Her family being one of her greatest passions in life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger, grandson Jacob Burke, and siblings Delores Barnhart, Edwin Boyden, Melvin Boyden, Darold Boyden, and Gerald Boyden.
Darlene is survived and missed dearly by her loving son, Bob (Dawn) Burke; grandchildren Carrie (Rob) Tinsman, Brett Burke, Jason Coffman, Becky (Clayton) Merrill, Zachery Coffman; great-grandchildren, Cole (Sarah) Burke, Dylan Burke, Katelyn Merrill, Garrett Merrill; great-great-grandchild Lane Burke; her siblings Dixie Bruce, Pat Donaldson, Betty Ferris, Barbara (Lorenzo) Maldonado, Kathleen Pursell, Harry (Deb) Boyden, Donald (Jackie) Boyden, Sue (Lee) Ossman, Sally (Rick) Vancura; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Shepherd’s Premier Senior Living Center in Oregon and the staff at Serenity Hospice & Home for their kind and compassionate care.
Private family services have been scheduled in her honor. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband in Riverview Cemetery of Oregon, IL. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Oregon Village of Progress in her name.
