Elizabeth A. Benthien, age 92, passed away at Allure of Pinecrest in Mt. Morris on March 31, 2024. She was born in Rockford on August 18, 1931 the daughter of Thomas and Grace (Frank) Rew. Elizabeth grew up in Rockford, IL where she attended West High School. She married the love of her life Robert Benthien on April 13, 1948 and he preceded in her in death on June 2, 2009. Betty and Bob raised their family in Winnebago where she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Community Unit School District 323 for many years. She was a woman with a strong faith in God and attended Forest City Baptist Church in Rockford with her family for many years before they moved out in the country and settled in Leaf River. Once there, they began attending First Baptist/ Cornerstone Family Church in Byron where they were active in the AWANAS youth ministry. After her husband passed, Betty moved to the Byron area before transitioning to Pinecrest/ Allure Campus Village Apartments and then to the Pinecrest/Allure Terrace. She had a servant’s heart and enjoyed volunteering for the Rockford Rescue Mission. In her spare time; she loved tending to her garden and baking for her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Robert Rew, daughter, Kathy Cummins, and son, David Benthien. She is survived by her son, Thomas (Laura) Benthien of Rockford; sister, Marilyn (Don) Fensterman; brother, Jim (Alice) Rew; daughter-in-law, Vickie Benthien; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service celebrating her well lived life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday April 4, 2024 at the Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Byron with Pastor Randy Snider officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at North Grove Christian Cemetery in Leaf River. Memorials are established for Cornerstone Family Church, 205 Peru St., Byron, IL 61010.
