Frank M. Holan

November 26, 1939 — February 1, 2025

Frank M. Holan, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 26, 1939, in Chicago, IL, Frank was the son of Frank and Julia (Pavlinec) Holan. After graduating from Harrison High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea. Upon returning home, he studied commercial design at the Art Institute of Chicago before embarking on a distinguished career in law enforcement. On May 6, 1967, Frank married the love of his life, Winona DuCharme, while serving as a police officer in Chicago’s 1st District. Over the course of 31 years, he rose to the rank of sergeant in the City’s 12th District. After retiring in 1995, Frank and Winona relocated to Lost Lake in Dixon, IL, where he embraced a well-earned retirement filled with adventure, creativity, and service. Frank found joy in international travel with Winona, cherished time spent with all his family, and took delight in the beauty of nature through birdwatching and fishing. A passionate artist and dedicated volunteer, he contributed his graphic design talents to Lost Lake’s Senior Focus Group, painted with the Eagles Nest Art Group in Oregon, and played an active role in Lost Lake’s annual Fishing Derby. He also gave his time to Pegasus Special Riders, continuing his commitment to helping others. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Jackie, and his brothers-in-law, Ron, Gary, and Clair. He is survived by his devoted wife, Winona Holan; his children, Jennifer Holan (Jeff), Alyssa Holan (Francisco), and Michael Holan; and his sister, Barbara Booth. A celebration of Frank’s life will be planned for a later date in 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Serenity Hospice & Home at www.serenityhospiceandhome.org or Granny Rose Animal Shelter at www.grannyroseanimalshelter.org.
