ROCKFORD, IL ~ Geraldine “Gerry” Mae Allen, 95, passed away peacefully in her home in Rockford, IL, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. She was born on February 4, 1930, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Asa L & Mae W. (Rydberg) Pagles. She graduated East High School in 1948. Later that year she married the love of her life, Wayne L. Allen, on June 9, at the New Milford United Methodist Church. Gerry loved her life with Wayne, loved being a “Farm Wife” and took on the role of family matriarch for over 25 years, after her husband’s passing. She loved to cook and would always make sure that her family had three square meals a day, especially during farming season. She would help to milk the cows with her husband and even learned to drive the combine. Beyond her life on the farm, she was a seamstress, enjoyed dancing and getting together with her Potluck group of over 50 years for which she is the sole survivor. She was an active member of her local Moose Lodge and was a devout member of the New Milford United Methodist Church. She is also preceded in death by her parents Asa & Mae, her parents-in-law Earl & Blanch Allen, daughter-in-law Linda Sullivan-Allen, and her dear friend Glenn Cox. Gerry is survived and missed dearly by her loving children Roger (Debra) Allen of Davis, IL; Bob Allen of Monroe Center, IL; Richard (Pam) Allen of Rockford, IL; Rhonda (Tim) Green of Rockford, IL; grandchildren Daniel, Kevin, Alicia, Chelsea, Erin, Brian, Kelli, Liz, Adam, Amy, Tona, Shana, Ashley, Tiffany, Krystal, Joshua; 25 great-grandchildren; her church family; and many more dear friends.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, between the hours of 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home of Stillman Valley, IL. A funeral service honoring her life will follow beginning at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Harkness of the New Milford United Methodist Church presiding. Geraldine will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Wayne, at Arlington Cemetery of Rockford, IL, following a private family graveside service. Memorial donations are established in her name and may be directed to Serenity Hospice and Home of Oregon, IL.
