Harold Martin Book, age 94, of Byron died Sunday April 3, 2022. Born October 11, 1927 in Oregon, the son of Clarence W. and Jessie (Martin) Book. The second of eleven children, Harold grew up in rural Oregon and attended Pleasant Valley School. The Book family moved to rural Leaf River in 1941 and he worked on the family farm and graduated from Leaf River High School class of 1945. Harold farmed in the Leaf River/Egan area and was also employed full time driving semi-truck for 41 years. He drove for Hi-Way Motor Service and A & B Freight Lines. He was a member of Leaf River Baptist Church, Stevenson County Antique Engine Club and a 41-year member of Local 325. Harold enjoyed gardening, watching and feeding the birds and squirrels, his many dogs in his lifetime and riding his scooter. Survived by his children: Howard (Tammy) Book of Pocahontas, Arkansas, Connie (David) Fox of Tampico, Steven (Susan) Book of Forreston and Carol (Lloyd) Bellows of Oregon; 11 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brother, David (Linda) Book of Pecatonica; sisters: Marjorie Genandt of Polo and Mildred Samons of Orland, California; sister-in-law, Beverly Book of Pecatonica; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Cheryel, his parents, brothers: Albert, Everett and Glenn; and sisters: Doris Book, Delores Davis, Helen Myers, and Dorothy Butt. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday April 9, 2022 at Leaf River Baptist Church, 6941 N Mt Morris Rd, Leaf River, IL 61047. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Friends Forever Humane Society Freeport, IL.
