Jerome Scott “Jerry” Gorsegner, age 64, died Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. He was born September 10, 1958 in Greeley, Colorado; the son of Leonard E. and Marcia A. (Kilmer) Gorsegner. He graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1976. Jerry married Lynnette “Lynn” Hayton on May 13, 1986 in Oregon. He worked for many years at the Byron Nuclear Power Station in several roles, retiring as a control room operator. Jerry was very active in his children’s lives. He was their Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years, even serving as the Northern Ogle Unit Service Director for the Girl Scouts for three years. He coached their t-ball, softball, and baseball teams. He enjoyed fishing and playing darts. He was also a passionate and excellent home cook and will be remembered for many of his recipes. Jerry was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Lynn of Oregon and five children: Jennifer (Lucas) of Bayfield, CO, Tyler (Alora) of Mt. Morris, IL, Nicole, Heather, and Marissa of Oregon, IL; two grandsons, Brextyn and Soiyr, and a granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by a brother, David (Kim) of Loves Park, IL; sister, Karen of Freeport, IL; and many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 24, 2023 from 5-7 pm at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 136 W. Roosevelt Road in Stillman Valley, IL. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023 at the Kishwaukee Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church near Stillman Valley with the Rev. Nick Garner, pastor of the church, officiating. A memorial fund is established in Jerry’s name and may be directed to the family.
