Dixon – Joan M. Proper, age 83, died Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Franklin Grove Living Rehab Center. She was born August 12, 1937 in Rochelle, Illinois the daughter of John and Mabel (Stonebraker) Bennett. Joan graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1956. She married James Proper on Nov. 15, 1958 at the Chana United Methodist Church. She worked for over 25 years for Sears at the Fox Valley Mall in Aurora. She and Jim raised their family in the Aurora area. In 1996 they moved to Lost Nation Lake near Dixon, IL. She was a member of the Lighthouse United Methodist Church. Joan loved to bowl when she was younger and even won a car at a bowling tournament. She also loved to golf and was an avid Cub’s fan. Most of all Joan loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, 4 brothers; Robert, James, Paul, and Carl Bennett, and 3 sisters; Harriett Maas, Ruth Bennett, and Mary Rasmussen. She is survived by her husband James Proper of Dixon, 3 children; James Proper, Jr. of Galesburg, Janet (Shawn) Parish of Dixon, and John (Stacee) Proper of Rockford, 1 brother Frank Bennett of Princeton, 7 grandchildren; Misty Proper, Jessica Groth, Kelly Proper, Samantha Parish, Connor Parish, Charlotte Proper and Dylan Proper, 2 great grandchildren Emrik and Ethan Groth. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm noon on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th Street in Oregon, IL. There will be no funeral service at this time. Due to Covid-19 regulations, a limited number of people will be allowed in the funeral home at a single time, social distancing must be observed, and a mask must be worn to see the family. A memorial fund is established for the American Heart Association.
