Kenneth L. Giese

Oregon, IL – Kenneth L. Giese, age 94, died Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon with his loving and devoted wife Barb at his side.  He was born March 7, 1928 in Dixon, Illinois the son of Fred and Johanna (Heider) Giese.  Ken attended Dixon Schools.  Ken married Barbara E. Janssen on May 9, 1954 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oregon, IL.  He worked over 25 years for Sieg Automotive Parts as a manager.  Ken served his country in the U.S. Army from 1950 – 1953.  Ken was a longtime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, a 50 year member of the Oregon Masonic Lodge # 420, and the Oregon VFW Post 8739.  He and his wife Barb loved being snowbirds in Florida for 19 years.  He liked boating on the Rock River, doing his own yard work, doing word puzzles, and building model cars.  He rebuilt his own 1964 Corvair convertible.  Ken was predeceased by his parents, brothers William and Fred Giese, and sister Mary Craig.  He is survived by his wife Barb of Franklin Grove, brother Robert Giese of Dixon, sister-in-law Mary Giese of Dixon, sister-in-law Leta Thomas of Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, January 30, 2023 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Oregon with the Rev. Carl Rasmussen officiating.  Visitation will be Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 3-5 pm at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 South 7^th Street, Oregon, IL.  Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery near Oregon. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is established in Ken’s name for the Serenity Hospice and Home, the Rock River Center, and the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
