Leroy “Lee” Johnson, age 85, of Rockford, formally of Stillman Valley, passed away on September 10, 2021 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born on December 4, 1935 the son of Monroe and Ida (Larson) Johnson. Lee graduated from Monroe Center High School. He married Margaret “Anne” Swim on December 28, 1957 in Dixon; she preceded him in death. He worked for many years for Greenlee Textron before he retired in 1997. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Stillman Valley. In his spare time; Lee enjoyed gardening, woodworking, baking, and bread making. He was a car enthusiast for all of his life. He loved the Crazy Horse Memorial in in South Dakota and was a contributor to the Byron Civic Theatre. But, most of all Lee loved being a father and grandfather who always made time to make fun and special memories with his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Kevin (Ellen) Johnson of Rockford, Kathy (David) Cook of Loves Park, Jeff (Becky) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN, and Julie (Brad) Johns of Gainesville, GA; siblings, Vernon Johnson, John Johnson, Tom (Kathy) Johnson, Joyce (Floyd) Stephens, Carol Strang, Shirley (Jim) Erboe, Doris (Gary) Noble, and Patty Dodd; grandchildren, Dan Johnson, Mike (Kelly Young) Johnson, Nathan (Jacqueline) Cook, Kaj Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Drew (Leah) Johns, and Sarah (Chaston) Asbury; great grandchildren, Isaac, Oliver, Anna, Miles, and baby Asbury; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings, Gene, Bill, Bob, Beatrice, and Susan, and grandsons Ross and Nicholas Cook. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday September 15, 2021 at the Red Brick Church in Stillman Valley. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to the service. We kindly recommend that masks be worn while inside during the service. Burial will be at Stillman Valley Cemetery. Memorials are established for St. Jude’s.
