Lillian O. McNames, 98, of Byron, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, at Allure of Pinecrest, Mt. Morris, IL.
Lillian was born on January 19th, 1926, in Bluford, IL, to Samuel Redburn and Nancy (Carroll) Redburn.
Lillian graduated from Bluford High School and then moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she worked as a telephone operator. She later moved to Rockford, IL, where she met and married her husband of 65 years, Duane McNames, of Byron. Together they spent many happy years dancing to Big Bands, traveling, and raising five children. After retirement Lillian and her husband enjoyed many warm winters in Arizona where they made friendships that lasted long after the yearly trips ended. Lillian loved flowers and always tended flower gardens wherever she lived. Always busy, she was still sewing up to 96 years of age.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children Doug McNames of N. Ft. Myers, FL, Marge (Gary) Wingert of Oregon, IL, Pat (David) Ray of Andersonville, TN, Linda Bailey of Spring Hill, TN, and Alan (Marie) McNames of Byron. Lillian also leaves her grandchildren Rachel Gilbert, ReAnna McNames, Brandon McNames, Loren McNames, Megan McNames, and Cailin Bailey. She leaves five great grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Lois Rhodes and Mary Jane McNames She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Lillian is predeceased by her husband Duane, brother Oscar Redburn, and half-brother Emery Staley.
A private burial will be held in Byron Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Serenity and Hospice of Oregon, IL.
