Lyle Hayes

Lyle E. Hayes, age 89, died Monday, July 25, 2022 at the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL.  Lyle was born October 2, 1932 in Rochelle, Illinois the son of Ralph P. and Emma “Rosella” (Sassaman) Hayes.  He attended Kings School through the 10th grade and graduated from Stillman Valley High School in 1950.  Lyle married Joan Hepfer on Nov. 8, 1958 at the Lighthouse United Methodist Church.   Lyle served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955.   He was previously a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kings prior to its closing and then became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle.  He worked for his father 17 years at Hayes Trucking prior to purchasing the business which he owned and operated from 1967 – 1998.  He enjoyed being with his family especially his grandchildren and would attend most of their sporting events.  He enjoyed mowing his lawn and taking daily walks with his special friend Craig Stouffer.  He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Leanne Hayes in 1979, and his brother Dale Hayes.  He is survived by his wife Joan of Kings, IL, daughter Sandy (Tim) Schultz of Algonquin, IL, son Mike (Jodi) Hayes of Kings, IL. sister Rogene Fraley of Florida, 5 grandchildren Ashley (Cody) Fredricksen, Erik (Amanda) Tremaine, Timothy Schultz, and twins Liberty and Shepard Hayes, 2 great grandchildren Caelan and Ally Fredricksen.  Funeral service will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, July 29, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, with the Rev. Doug Forsberg pastor of the church officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church prior to the service on Friday.  Private burial will take place at the White Rock Cemetery near Kings.  A memorial fund is established in Lyle’s name for the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle and the Serenity Hospice and Home near Oregon.
