Marlene J. Emery, age 91, passed away at home on March 26, 2024. She was born on March 13, 1933 in Chicago the daughter of Charles and Esther (Christensen) Nielsen. Marlene married the love of her life, James Emery on August 4, 1951 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on December 25, 2015. She was a woman with a strong Christian faith who enjoyed playing an active role in church by helping set up luncheons, taking part in the Women’s Guilds and attending services on Sundays. She liked to be outdoors and some of her fondest days were spent fishing with her husband and children or camping with her family and friends. Her family looks back at all the beautiful memories spent with Marlene at the camper in Michigan or going to the Chinese restaurant, show, and ice cream on her and her twin, Marilyn’s birthdays. Marlene was a natural caregiver and loved to help people. She spent many of her days caring for her husband and for others as a CNA at Pinecrest for many years. She took that compassion to the Rockford Rescue Mission where she spent time volunteering. Her family knew she could be counted on in their time of need. She was their “go to” girl. Once the day came to an end she loved to cozy up with a good book and read before going to bed or take the time to crochet. She was a dedicated wife and mother who always took care of her home. The most important thing in Marlene’s life was her family. She loved them well and made sure they knew how important every single person in her family was to her. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Charles, Margaret, June, Loraine, Audrey, Carl, Norman, and Marilyn. She is survived and missed by her children, Susan (Steve) Bouton, Linda Martin, James Jr. (Sara) Emery, Steven Sr. (Cheyenne) Emery, and Christine Emery; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who she loved beyond measure. Marlene was given wonderful care by the staff of Serenity Hospice and the memorials are established for them. She was and will continue to be loved by all that knew her and as she would always say “Uffda!” A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on April 6, 2024 at Riverview Cemetery in Oregon.
