 Max Leroy Newcomer, 95, from Oregon IL, passed away peacefully at KSB hospital on Saturday April 15th, four days after suffering a stroke at home.  He was born Nov. 1, 1927 near Lanark, IL the son of Clyde S. and E. Mae (Lester) Newcomer.  Max grew up in Carroll County, graduated from Milledgeville High School in 1946, served in the Marines in WW2 and then in the US Army during the Korean conflict. After being honorably discharged, he moved to Oregon, IL where he met Sylvia Bolhous. They married Sep, 12, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oregon, 69 years ago. He became a master carpenter and he was gifted with the use of his hands in performing top quality work. Max would take on any sort of construction project from building beautiful homes, home additions, cabinet building, cement work, roofing, swimming pools and pool tables.  Max was a lifetime member of the Oregon VFW Post 8739 where he served in many Post offices including two-time Post Commander.  Max was a devoted, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.  Max is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Oregon Il; his loving children Mark (Kay Helker) Newcomer, Galena, Il, Scott (Victoria) Newcomer, Muskego, Wi, Lisa (Mark) Vail, Lincoln NE and Joel Newcomer of Chana, Il, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Max is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Margaret Glenn.  As per his wishes, Max’s body was donated to science.  A combined memorial service for Max and Sylvia Newcomer will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 13, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oregon, IL with the Rev. Carl Rasmussen pastor of the church and Chaplin John Tuttle of the Oregon VFW Post 8739 officiating. In Lieu of flowers, memorials in Max and Sylvia’s honor may be directed to the Wounded Warriors Project, St Paul’s Lutheran Church or VFW Post 8739.    The service will be available on Facebook Live.  The Facebook page is called Paul Lutheran.  It will remain there for several weeks for those to view the service live.
