Nathan Lloyd Sosa (Nate), 38, of Oregon, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on September 30th, 2024.
Nate was born in Freeport, Illinois on November 21st, 1985 to Raul Sosa and Bernice Senders.
After high school, Nate joined the Army National Guard in 2005 and was deployed with the 2-106 Cavalry Squadron, 178 Infantry Battalion to Mehtar Lahm, Afghanistan (2008-2009) and served until honorably discharged in 2012. Nate worked as a Correctional Officer at the Illinois Dept. of Corrections, attaining the rank of Lieutenant.
Nate married Lauren (Taylor) Sosa on December 19, 2020, at White Pines in Oregon, Illinois. Nate especially loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed playing hockey and was an avid Blackhawks and Cubs fan. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, table-top gaming, and loved movies. He was a fan of all things Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney, and Marvel. He loved music of all genres but was a huge fan of the Dave Matthews Band.
While he served in the Army National Guard, he was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Action Badge. He was a member of Oregon VFW Post 8739 and served as a Union Steward with Council 31 AFSCME.
Nate was a cherished uncle, a beloved brother, and a loyal friend to many. He had an unparalleled ability to connect with others, always showing patience, kindness, and a warm sense of humor. Nate was wise beyond his years, offering guidance and support whenever it was needed.
His favorite memories were made in the company of his nieces and nephews, whom he adored and dedicated himself to wholeheartedly. Whether lending a hand or simply being there to listen, he was always willing to help. Nate had a remarkable talent for making others feel valued and loved, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
As a co-worker, he was respected for his dedication and camaraderie. He embodied the qualities of a good brother, friend, and uncle, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support. Nate will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Remaining to cherish Nate’s memory are his wife, Lauren; his mother, Bernice Senders of Dixon, Illinois; mother-in-law Laura Wolfson of Burlington, Wisconsin; siblings, Will Sosa (Kellie) of Malta, Illinois, Shirley Schuller (Curtis) of Oregon, Illinois, Wes Sosa (Liz) Dallas, Texas, Alfie Sosa (Angi) of Mount Morris, Illinois, and Philip Terry (Lorna) of Sycamore, Illinois; Aunt Josephine Rodriguez of Dixon, Illinois; close cousins Dominick Gunn, Mary Rodriguez, Henry Rodriguez, and Andy Rodriguez; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 12th, 2024 from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Oregon VFW Post 8739.
