Nina K. Whetsel, age 100, passed away on March 18, 2024. She was born Nov. 8, 1924 in Oregon, IL the daughter of William R. and Nina (Hardesty) Taft. She married the love of her life Wilbur W. Whetsel on May 26, 1941 at the Oregon Church of God and enjoyed 77 wonderful years together. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Will and Tommy. Nina and her husband owned Whetsels’ Shoe Store for 33 years in Byron, Illinois. Nina was an avid reader, puzzle solver, sewer, crocheter, and knitter. She was a woman of faith and enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Nina was a member of the Red Brick Church in Stillman Valley, IL. When she could, she enjoyed volunteering at Neighbors Nursing Home in Byron. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Wilbur in 2018, daughter-in-law Janet Whetsel, and numerous brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Wilbur Whetsel, Jr. of Evansville, Wisconsin, and Tommy Whetsel of Byron, Illinois; 3 granddaughters: Stephanie Whetsel of Evansville, Wisconsin; Stacy Ramos of Dewitt, Michigan; and Heather Milbach of Peshtigo, Wisconsin; and 7 great grandchildren. A private graveside service will take place at the Byron Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Brauns officiating. In lieu of flowers her wish is for donations to go to Village of Progress.
