Sandra Burkhart

Leaf River, IL – Sandra L. Burkhart, age 84, died Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the Pinecrest Community Terrace in Mt. Morris, IL.  She was born May 2, 1937 in Rockford, IL the daughter to Max and Hazel (Allinson) Hunt.  She graduated from Harlem High School in Rockford, IL.  Sandra married Marvin L. Burkhart on Nov. 17, 1956 in Rockford.  She worked 6 years for Jennie’s Just Sew Shop in Byron, IL.  She also was a telephone operator in her younger years.  She formerly attended the Leaf River Baptist Church.  Sandra enjoyed canning vegetables from her garden, playing cards, and loved to sew and quilt, having made over 100 quilts.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband Marvin, 2 daughters Cindy Wiggins, and Tracy Palan, and 2 brothers Richard and Clayton Hunt.  She is survived by her son Kim (Debra) Burkhart of Leaf River, daughter Wendy Burkhart of Freeport, granddaughter Tanya (Dustin) Canfield of Chana, great grandchildren Jacob Christensen and Cole Canfield, sister Sherry (Raymond) Empereur of Rockford, and sister-in-law Charlotte Hunt of Indiana.  Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Wed., July 21, 2021 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant Street in Byron, IL with the Pastor Randy Snider of the Cornerstone Family Church in Byron officiating.  Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Byron Cemetery. A memorial fund is established for the Pinecrest Community Terrace in Mt. Morris, IL.
