William "Bill" R. Wessel

William “Bill” Richard Wessel, age 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Swedish American Hospital. He was born on October 31, 1955 in Pittsburg PA, the son of Richard “Dick” and Patricia “Pat” (Muschwcak) Wessel. He married the love of his life Sherry Caywood on October 18, 1980 and they built a beautiful life together. He owned and operated multiple businesses throughout his life including Metal Prep Services Inc. as well as an Industrial Propane business. Bill was a faithful man who loved Jesus. He attended City First Church in Rockford and also enjoyed spending time with his life groups from church. He raised his family in Stillman Valley where he coached soccer for 14 years. He loved working at the Stillman bus garage. Bill enjoyed guitars and vintage motorcycles. Bill had a love of life and was a friend to everyone he met. To know him was to love him. He was selfless and always wanting to be in service to others. He always had a positive outlook on life even after battling a stroke and cancer. But, the most important thing in his life was his family. He loved being a husband, father, and especially a grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Keith and Ruth Caywood. He is survived and missed by his wife, Sherry Wessel of Rockford; sons, Richard “Rich” (Jennifer) Wessel of Roscoe and Robert (Laura) Wessel of Rockford; sisters, Nancy Harkey of Monroe Center and Joan Moore of Rockford; and grandchildren, Eden, Keith, Corban, and Grayson. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home in Stillman Valley with Eric Mark officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are established for City First Church in Rockford.
