William "Bill" Young

William E. Young, a devoted husband, father, and lifelong educator, passed away on January 15, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in 1943, William was a cherished member of his community who dedicated his life to serving others, especially through his work as an educator. For 61 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Patricia, and together, they built a family rooted in love, support, and a shared passion for helping others.

Throughout his career, William touched countless lives, both in and out of the classroom. As an educator, he found joy in fostering the growth and success of his students, especially on the athletic field, where he celebrated their hard work and achievements. His legacy is forever cemented in the hearts of those he mentored and in the presence of William E. Young Elementary School, a part of the Homer 33C School District, which honors his lifelong commitment to education and service.

Outside of his professional life, William was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoying the outdoors and the quiet moments spent in nature. He especially cherished the time spent with his family, creating memories that will last for generations.

William is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia; his daughter, Gretchen Nelson (Chad) and their children Taylor, Morgan, and Dylan; his son, Jordan Young (Amy) and their children Dustin and Maggie; and his daughter, Kirsten Young (Amy) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family in the area. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his beloved daughter.

William's impact on those who knew him will never be forgotten. His life was a testament to the power of dedication, love, and service to others. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide the many lives he touched.

Rest in peace, William. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Prairieview Golf Pavillion, 6734 N German Church Rd, Byron. Memorials made in his memory may be directed to the family.
